I’ve had a really busy summer, with one more trip to the Brooks Range coming up in a few days. I’m just back from a 17 day trip in western Gates of the Arctic National Park. It was a two-part trip, a week-long backpacking trip from the headwaters of the Alatna to the Noatak, and then a ten day canoe trip down the Noatak. Along the way, my clients and I faced all kinds of weather, over 15 different Grizzlies, dozens of caribou, and few days that were so sublime and beautiful that I was literally brought to tears.
The evening I made this image, was one of those days. My clients had turned in for the night, and I wandered off up the gravel bar from our camp at the mouth of the Ipnelivik River with my camera.
