David Shaw is passionate about the world’s remaining wild places and creatures. With both undergraduate and masters degrees in wildlife biology he comes at photography, writing, and wilderness travel with a unique and engaging voice. By blending science, natural history, and adventure into his images and words, Dave creates engaging stories for the conservation community, natural history and photography publications, and the outdoor industry.
Dave has travelled across the planet from Alaska to Antarctica and leaves bits of his heart in the wild places he visits. He has a particular passion for Alaska’s Brooks Range, and the rich tropical forests of the Americas. It’s a strange combination, but one that suits his migratory habits. He fell in love with tropical rain forest during various research and birding expeditions, and the wild Brooks Range, though vastly different, are in Dave’s opinion, the most beautiful mountains in the world.
When it comes to adventurous photography and writing assignments, there are few as passionate and skilled. Those that travel with him feel the same way. As one client on a wilderness trip put it, “Dave is a big bear of a guide who inspires utter confidence.” Dave will take that as a compliment.
David Shaw’s photography and writing have been published around the world in magazines, textbooks, calendars, websites, and advertising campaigns. See the publications page for a complete list and links to online content.
