The shortest days of the year have brought along a solid cold snap here in Fairbanks. Yesterday morning temperatures in town hit -48F. Ice fog engulfed most of town in a stinky, choke-inducing haze, and I did my best to stay clear-away. My home is gratefully located well away from the ice-fog of town. But I as I was driving down my driveway returning home in the early afternoon, I was surprised to find just a bit of fog hanging in the air over the valley bottom. This fog was rising off some fresh water oozing from the edges of the creek and creating a new layer of overflow ice in the process. The sun was very low on the horizon but peeked through the trees in beams. I stopped the car and made a few grab shots. Here they are:<\/p>\n
