It’s been a slow start to the season. The sun, despite being at its peak of solar activity for the next ten or so years, hasn’t been sending much action our way. Hopefully, however, that is starting to change. This week we had a few little bursts of activity. I managed to make a few images the other night, some of which I’ve been sharing on my Facebook page. This one however, for reasons that aren’t always clear, lay unprocessed in my Lightroom catalog, until I looked at for the first time just a few minutes ago.

I made this image on Thursday evening, about 9pm. I got a text message from Aurora Notify letting me know the lights were out. I stepped out onto the porch to see a couple of lovely south-reaching curtains. I grabbed my camera and went for a clearing down below my cabin. As I set up the tripod the lights started to fade and I made just 4 images. Three similars, much like this image, and the one above. Though the lights were dispersing into a cloud, the shape, I think, echoes the trees nicely.

I’m in Anchorage right now for a weekend meeting of Audubon Alaska. I probably won’t have too much time to shoot while I’m here, and I brought only a camera and one lens, but I did arrive just in time for the sunset this evening. Scampered down the shore of Cook Inlet a couple minutes walk from my Bed and Breakfast (The Copper Whale, great place) and snapped a few as the sun slipped away. Here are a couple shots:

Have a great weekend and go make some images, watch some birds, or just go outside for the hell of it.

Perhaps it is, perhaps it is.
