The challenge of travel photography is to portray a sense of place through a single moment in time. The moment a young a Buddhist monk emerges into the windy day from the dim confines of a stone corridor or the the way the angled orange light of sunrise fell across the side of a building. The late Michio Hoshino, a truly sublime photographer, said an image should tell a story. I strive for this ideal, but attaining it is a trick.
